My first "real" trip to Mexico was a cruise. Why I say "real" is that cruising is more like consecutive one or two day road trips where you get to see a little, eat at little (or a lot) and experience just a taste of a place. Even though I've been twice before I don't count my two former visits as all that "real" either. Tijuana for a day during college, actually drove across the border with a few girlfriends and spent the day shopping - doesn't count. Sonora Bay/Club Med for one week - never left the property, completely Americanized - doesn't count. That all changed, even though they were short visits to San Sebastián del Oeste, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. I guess I just like dipping my toe into Mexico.
This time I got to experience the culture, food and meet gracious, lovely people who were very welcoming. I loved finding the everyday details in the small villages and neighborhoods of these charming places.
